There is an old RollingStone article by Claire Hoffman that explains how, when the Beatles met the Marahishi Yogi in India, it changed America. My husband had a painter friend from Mumbai, Mohan Samant, who invited dozens of musicians, painters, and poets to his studio in Manhattan for parties and concerts. Swamis and sages came to teach transcendental meditation, yoga, and Eastern religion to Americans fatigued by the Viet Nam war and searching for some spiritual meaning to life. These B/W photographs are of artists from India that I met from 1965-1975. I never met a single woman artist or musician.
